Why does marble surface rust:
The main component of stone rust is a mixture of iron hydroxide and ferrous hydroxide. Marble surfaces naturally age and oxidise over time, especially noticeable with outdoor exposure. Major climatic factors include:
UV Exposure: Prolonged exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet rays can cause the organic substances on the surface of marble to gradually decompose, causing it to lose its original lustre, which manifests itself as yellowing.
Rain and humidity: Many tiny pores on the surface of marble can easily absorb water, especially in humid climatic conditions, the dissolved substances in this water can form scale on the surface for a long time, and at the same time, it will also promote the chemical reaction inside the marble, accelerating the process of yellowing and rusting.
How to remove rust stain from marble surface?
I think the chemical rust selection of industrial hydrochloric acid as the main pickling material, and then with the right amount of additives composed of rust removing agents and rust chemical reaction, generating easily soluble in water, such as ferric chloride, you can achieve the effect of removing rust.
- First of all, I suggest that before cleaning with detergents or protective agents to clean the surface of the stone, the protective agent evenly brushed on the surface of the stone, after drying the surface will have excellent protective effect.
- Try to avoid the direct use of oxalic acid to clean the marble rust stains, because oxalic acid is just a simple rust spots in the 2-valent iron oxidation reduction into 3-valent iron, times the reduction of iron ions still has a high degree of instability, easy to oxidise again and air and water to generate rust, but also with the flow of oxalic acid solution to further expand the area of rust stains. This is sometimes the use of oxalic acid solution to remove rust, the more in addition to the larger the area of the reason.
- When choosing marble rust remover, avoid using alkaline rust remover to remove marble rust stain. Because I used to use alkaline marble rust remover, I know it is not right! Choose a good quality rust remover in addition to the acidic component, HIA added the right amount of additives to maintain the stability of iron ions. Rust stain treated with this rust remover will remain for a long time without recurrence, even without protective treatment. However, if the rust remover used is just a simple mixed liquid with some acids, it can’t keep the stability of iron ions, and the recurrence is almost unavoidable.

- Deep rust stains are difficult to deal with, the removal method is a little more complicated, you need to use the surface grinding method to deal with. First have a certain amount of rust remover and let them react time. Then choose to use diamond sandpaper for grinding, and then apply a good stone special wax can achieve the desired effect.
- After using the stone rust remover, to use a lot of water to clean once, do not leave rust remover residue. After drying, be sure to use high-quality stone maintenance agent to do a good job of protective treatment. The purpose of such an operation is to completely remove the residue after the oxidation reaction, to prevent recurrence of oxidation reaction.
