Quartz countertops may have scratches, cracks or gaps after long-term use. I will provide a solution for repairing quartz countertops to ensure that your countertops are restored to their original state.
Common damage types and repair logic
Tools and materials needed to refinish quartz countertop
Tool list:
- Angle grinder
- Diamond sandpaper (200 mesh, 400 mesh, 800 mesh)
- Scrubber pad (slit for more economical use)
- Tape, scraper
- Goggles, dust mask, rubber gloves
Material list:
- Epoxy resin repair agen
- Quartz special repair paste
- Natural color powder (iron oxide yellow, black, etc.)
- Quartz polishing paste
- Neutral detergent, hydrogen peroxide solution
How to repair shallow scratches on quartz countertops
- Cleaning pretreatment:
Use a neutral detergent to thoroughly clean the scratched area, and apply masking tape to isolate the surrounding area after drying.
If the scratch is deep, first use 200-grit sandpaper to grind in one direction at a 45° angle to remove surface burrs. - Fine grinding:
Replace 400-grit and 600-grit sandpaper in turn, and use “8”-shaped grinding. Each process lasts 3-5 minutes.
Use a flashlight to check the flatness from the side until the scratches are basically gone.
Apply a small amount of polishing paste, and polish with a low-speed angle grinder and a scouring pad for 2 minutes, with the speed controlled within 400 rpm.
Wipe clean with a microfiber cloth, and the countertop should have a uniform gloss.

How to repair cracks in quartz countertops
- Crack pretreatment:
Use a utility knife to clean the debris in the crack, and use a hair dryer to preheat the 5cm area on both sides of the crack at low temperature (to improve the adhesion of the adhesive).
Apply masking tape along both sides of the crack, with a spacing of about 1cm, to form a guide groove - Adhesive preparation:
Mix according to the ratio of epoxy resin: curing agent = 3:1 (the curing agent can be appropriately increased to 25% in winter), and add 0.5% natural color powder for color adjustment.
Use a syringe to inject the glue into the crack, making sure to fill the internal gaps, and let it stand for 4-6 hours (25℃ environment). - Surface treatment:
After curing, use 800-grit sandpaper to smooth it, and then use 1500-grit sandpaper to finely polish it.
Finally, apply polishing paste and use a scouring pad to polish at a low speed until the gloss is consistent with the original countertop.

How to repair the corner gaps of quartz countertops
- Treatment of defective areas:
Use 400-grit sandpaper to polish the edge of the gap to form a 45° bevel to enhance adhesion.
Collect the collapsed fragments and temporarily fix them in place with AB glue. - Layered filling:
First layer: Mix quartz powder and repair paste, fill the bottom of the gap, and cure for 2 hours.
Second layer: Color-adjusting repair paste (add 10% transparent resin to improve gloss), fill to slightly above the surface, and cure for 4 hours. - Grinding and polishing:
Use 600-grit and 1000-grit sandpaper to polish, and finally use polishing paste and wool wheel to polish until it shines.
These solutions can effectively repair even the more serious damage. If the crack length exceeds 30cm or structural cracks occur, it is recommended to contact a professional stone repair team for processing
